Marketing Research with Survey Data: A Free Hands-On Course

Learn the survey methods that market researchers use every day to answer business questions: how satisfied customers are and why, which features to build, what price to charge, how the brand is positioned and which segments exist. Each lesson explains a method and lets you run it in a free tool with realistic example data, then shows how to turn the output into a recommendation.

What you will learn

  • Translate a business problem into research objectives, a questionnaire and a sampling plan
  • Measure and compare customer satisfaction with NPS and SERVQUAL gap analysis
  • Identify what really drives satisfaction with key driver analysis (relative weights and Shapley values)
  • Classify features with the Kano model and rank priorities with MaxDiff
  • Build the product line with the widest reach using TURF analysis
  • Find acceptable and optimal prices with Van Westendorp and Gabor-Granger
  • Estimate part-worth utilities, attribute importance and willingness to pay with conjoint analysis
  • Map brand positioning with correspondence analysis and MDS, and segment customers with latent class analysis

Who this course is for

Marketing and business students, MBA participants, junior market researchers, product managers and founders who run their own customer surveys. Basic familiarity with averages and percentages is enough; the statistics are explained as you go. Course 1 is helpful but not required.

How the course works

Each lesson explains one step of the method in plain language and then sends you to a free tool on this site with the data already loaded, so you practise on a real analysis as you read. A short quiz at the end of every lesson checks your understanding. Create a free student account to save your progress on every device. After the last lesson, pass the final assessment with 70% or more to earn a certificate of completion that you can download as a PDF at any time and that anyone can verify online. There are no fees, no deadlines and nothing to install.

Tools you will use

Frequently asked questions

Do I need SPSS, Sawtooth or Qualtrics analytics?

No. Every method in the course runs in a free tool on this site, in your browser. You can collect data with any survey platform (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey) and paste or upload the export.

What data does the course use?

Each tool has a realistic built-in example, such as 640 NPS ratings from three channels, a MaxDiff study of 12 banking features and a choice-based conjoint study of smartphones. The lessons quote the results you see when you open each tool.

Can I use the methods for my thesis or a client project?

Yes. Each tool page explains how to set up the questionnaire and data, and gives an APA-style reporting sentence. Cite the tool as shown on its page.

Is this course different from Course 5?

Yes. This course covers survey-based marketing research (asking customers). Course 5, Customer and Marketing Analytics, covers behavioural and transaction data (what customers do): RFM, CLV, retention, basket analysis, marketing mix modeling and A/B testing.

How do I get the certificate?

Complete all nine lessons and score at least 70% in the final assessment.
