Significant at α = .01No

Interpretation

For t(28) = 2.31, the two-tailed p-value is .0285.

t(28) = 2.31, p = .028.

What is a p-value?

If you have a test statistic but no p-value, this calculator returns the exact probability from the t, z, F, chi-square or correlation distribution, one- or two-tailed.

When to use a p-value

Use this when you have a test statistic and degrees of freedom but no p-value. F and chi-square tests are always right-tailed.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the values. Fill in statistic, value, degrees of freedom (or n for r) and tails.
  2. Read the results. Results update automatically. Read the plain-English interpretation, then use Copy table to paste APA-style tables into Word and Copy for the results sentence.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a p-value from a t statistic?

Choose t, enter the t value and its degrees of freedom, and select two-tailed unless your hypothesis predicted a direction in advance.

Are F and chi-square tests one- or two-tailed?

They are right-tailed by construction, because larger values always mean more evidence against the null hypothesis.

What does p < .05 mean?

It means a result at least this extreme would occur less than 5% of the time if the null hypothesis were true. It does not give the probability that the hypothesis is true.
